A couple (or rather: a dozen) sandwiches are better than a pot of chickensoup against any unknown illness because you can inhale then lying down. Thanks for this fine presription, Thom. LLK! Hun
I just want to say the clean-up job you've done the past few Sundays has been top notch! Thanks for making the extra effort to make these Sunday strips extra-spiffy!
I have a general Pogo question. I have been collecting the Simon and Shuster books and am trying to decide whether to plunk down the money for the Fantagraphics books. My suspicion is that I need to get both because there's stuff in one that isn't in the other. I'm not quite sure how the old paperbacks worked. Are they basically a "best of" from a given run of strips?
Hi David! The old Simon and Shusters are lovely to have, but they skip major batches of strips—not necessarily printing the best ones, but the ones that tell somewhat of a story. Sometimes Kelly would draw new panels for the books to segue between the gaps. The new Fantagraphics books are a must have, not omitting any dailies, but eSPECIALly because of the Sunday strips in color in entirety! Some people have complained a bit about the color, but not me. I LOVE the current Fantagraphics! They should be in any Pogo fan's library!
Oh, yes, the beauty of the old books is the poetry and special stories, the lovely covers AND the old book smell! Somebody, somewhere, sometime will undoubtedly collect the extra poems and stories and miscellany—perhaps it will be Fantagraphics?
I just had to do a few renditions of Albert and his poses, 3 of which are hand drawn and 1 done on the paint site to express my love of these two, even though I haven't done Alabaster yet. You can find them on my Tumblr site at Fireweedfluff@tumblr.com if you're interested. Love coming here so much<x)
My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
A solo Albert-Albaster exchange?
ReplyDeleteI must have died (from the CREAMBUMS) and gone to heaven.
Thanks so much for posting!
I was thinking the same thing—solo Albert and Alabaster—pretty cool.

Comfort and comfort food are what life is all about (or should be).

ReplyDeleteThanks for noticing, Tedley. Believe me, sometimes late on Saturday nite, the task seems over whelming.
DeleteAh, so good to see Alabaster get some screen-time. And it's amazing how well Kelly predicted the modern HMO!

ReplyDeleteI thought that might be the case. I'm guessing that the Fantagraphics books don't have the stuff in books like Pogo Mother Goose - the poems and such.
