Kelly liked Groundhog day, I think, because it starred one of nature's screechers. These are just a few excerpts of his many variations on shadow play.
I've been reading the Fantagraphics book, approximately one week's strips each day. I was wondering when my reading would catch up with the current date...it happened to be today, as I read the 1950s Groundhog's Day sequence. I've read that sequence before (in the Fireside "Best of Pogo" books from the '80s), but it's still so much fun. The best part is the various poetry readings on 1/31. Kelly always seemed to have a lot of fun drawing Beauregard, especially when he was being overly dramatic and expressive. ~Craig
My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
