Friend-in-Kelly 'Alimentary' sent over a link to see the original art for the previous post, demonstrating that Kelly's ink work was still in the groove. AND we get to see the extra panel from the 3 tier format.
Thank you Alimentary and thank you to Attempted Bloggery for posting this last year!
Landscape editions really had some wonderful stand-alone panel gems. Although not essential to the storyline, Howland and Albert leaning on each other like the roof of an alpine house is a visual treasure. The can see where Kelly had his hat on his head, and then decided to spill it backwards for additional comedic effect. Also, seeing Albert in a catcher's chest protector additionally amuses me since I often thought the way his yellow front banding looked in its abbreviated state resembled this very piece of gear.
Look how limp Howland is in the additional panel! Holy mackerel, that is a thing of beauty. Even this late in the game, no one could touch Kelly's posing.
My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
Sold for $1122! It always amazes me how much love art gets when the artist can no longer benefit from its value.

Oh, you're welcome, Thom. I'm going to add your scan of the published page to my posting to have the two together.
