Edded Owgga Air Add Leggo Ooms!

This week we have a bonus of TWO early Sunday strips!

If you are a dedicated Pogophile you have prolly seen these, as they appear in the lovely Fantagraphics reprint series.

But I have a goal of posting as many strips that I can of the Kelly oeuvre in my lifetime, whether they've been seen a lot or not,  and people relatively new to Pogo get to see a bunch of this stuff for the very first time! Yay!

  1. The first Sunday is one of my often cited examples of how cartoons used to be wonderfully unselfconscious.

    1. Gonechoo, yep, just about every Kelly strip could be cited as wonderful examples of one kind or another.

  2. Hey, I'm still here checking in from time to time. Sorry I've been bad at frequently commenting. Going to a University is basically throwing yourself into a gaping black hole leeching off your time, money, and energy. But just know that I'm still checking as much as I can, even though I may not have time to say much.

But I certainly do appreciate you posting these and seeing them for the first time. So please don't assume because most people who get into Walt Kelly have seen this material time and time again that surely the newbies like me have seen it too. There are very few open sources that allow that. But this is one of them. So I thank you for continuing it.

Also, I'm really fascinated by how Grundoon looks more like a baby rodent here in the earlier strips. He more or less becomes a human toddler covered in fur with bear ears later on.

    1. Loren, thanx for whenever you do comment. I can imagine University is all consuming. I will continue posting 'common' and 'uncommon' stuff as I can, for the wide range of viewers that we have now and in the future. I'm glad to be an ongoing source, and thanx for your encouragement!

And yeah, all these characters did evolve in interesting ways over a 20 year span.

  3. I have these 2 Sundays in one of my most cherished collections:Evidence to the Contrary. I might actually give this one to the local library and buy the 2 collection set coming soon, but anyway these never cease to put a smile on my facex)
