I really am starting to run low on my stash of Pogo tear sheets, though I feel it's been a good long run. I did find another short arc that I'm starting here. The final punchline on this Sunday is predictable, but that's just 'cause we know Albert so well.
I almost decided to pass over this week's post because the clean-up edits were so intimidatingly extensive. But I know how all 3 or 4 of you look forward to the Kelly Sundays. Time is short, so I weaseled out on fixing some of the mis-registration, but at least I made it fairly presentable.

Because some of you like to see what a fiasco some of these tear sheets are prior to editing, I'm including the 'before' scan here. The registration is more awry than usual. The pressmen really didn't give a hoot about comics at this point in time.
I still have some cool bonus material that I just haven't had time to package, but I'll get it up as soon as I can!
Poor Choo Choo! That looks as painful as...Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThom,
ReplyDeleteI'm again as always agreeably surprised about the amount of dedication you bring to this blog and -off course- about the enhancement you achieve!
BUT: as I expressed my opinion on an earlier occasion: I'd rather have an un-reworked scan than no posting at all.
Thank you, Friend in Kelly / LLK!

Yeah, I recall registration getting a lot worse than that before I gave up on the funny papers!
ReplyDelete(sorry if this is a double post)
Thank you for your hard work. I look forward to Sundays and appreciate all the hard work you do.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the hard work you put in to make beautiful scans of Pogo. I especially enjoy all the extra Kelly artwork that you post. Thank you for all the funnies!

Even an ill-registered Sunday Kelly still counts as Christmas in August (which suddenly reminds me of Preston Sturges’ Christmas in July). I for one will be more than happy to wait patiently for the bonus materials. Thom, your blog gave me my first look at Kelly’s great, haunting “With Apologies to a Year Gone By” (which I subsequently saw in the Deck Us All collection). The kinds of words that helps one gets through the daze.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I don’t know if it’s been mentioned on this blog yet, but the Kelly gang has captured the cover of Michael Barrier’s forthcoming Funnybooks: The Improbable Glories of the Best American Comic Books (due December 31, 2014). The cover may be seen on amazon.com. Three-quarter view of Churchy!! (But both his eyes are closed.)

Yay, thanks for the expressions of appreciation, you all. It certainly keeps me motivated to keep on keeping on!
ReplyDeleteAny comic with Albert in it is a gift in of itself, and lookie there! He's in every single panel too.
ReplyDeleteI hope I'm giving you some back traffic from my comic endeavors, but it's really hard to tell from my end.
