  1. I'm still here, I just don't seem to have much specific to say. Thank you for continuing to give us our Sunday, Kelly Sunday fix!

  2. "Seems like I'm doing all this fer myself."
    Almost, but not totally, Thom.
    Thanks for all the goodies!

  3. A beautiful wondrous Sunday page. There always was something psychedelic in Pogo. The first book "Pogo" of 1951 can be said to have announced the 60s (in practically all aspects, not only the surrealist psychedelic aspects).
Pandemonia then went all the way. And some. With a vengeance.
But this page, too, is definitely and stunningly in the psychedelic realm. The idea of the pet fish is totally crazy, right from the beginning.
What's interesting too, is that the coloring is, paradoxically rather realistic, with a nice work on the earth brown tones, and, for example, Chuchy not bright garrish May green like out of the house paint can.
It's quite a different astonishing page in short.

And, no. You're not alone, Thom. We love your work. Well, what we get to see of it.
And we're all so deeply grateful for your huge and enormously successful efforts on those Pogo strips. It is so greatly, so professionally, so artistically, so cleverly, so intelligently done.
Why Fantagraphics hasn't hired you yet for their Pogo re-issues will stay as a big publishing mystery in the annals of comics.
With an Art Director like you in their staff, they would definitely sell as twice as many books. What are they thinking? I can't believe they don't know about your blogs.
Well, that means we your blog-followers are the lucky privileged ones.
Keep the good work. Take good care. You'r pure gold. And a thousand thanks!

  12. Whenever I startup my computer on Sundays there's this happy expectation you taught me to feel! I figured out your supply won't last more than a year (probably less), so that will be a chilling void-like experience. I can't thank you enough!

  14. You're definitely not doing this for yourself! I check in daily (okay, ALMOST daily) for any new POGO gems. By the way, this last one certainly shows Kelly's mastery of sound effects.

  18. This site is a gold mine. I am a newbie, and I don't know how to pose a query and get a reply (to baker@rice.edu). I am seeking the reference to, I think, a series of daily Pogo strips in which one character (Churchy?) says "a thousand thanks," and when asked what he means proceeds to say "thank you, thank you, thank you," etc., through the next several daily strips.

    1. On Oct. 20,'53 there is the start for Porky to be bored by the Cockney bugs Reggie and Alf asking(2X)"a thousand pardons" for having mistaken him for a lady.
Hope this helps; but if so: pse don't swamp the blog with a gazillion expressions of thanks...
