Christmas Party

Today was a Sunday in 1962, so with the absence of having that strip, here is a Mad Magazine spread where Pogo, Albert and Churchy make a non-speaking appearance—all characters drawn by the master comics emulator Wally Wood.

  1. Little Orphan Annie getting her eyes unblunked! Does Beauregard know about this?

  2. I wonder if Woody went by his own rules and swiped the whole thing... He certainly emulated all of the original artists' styles, pretty impressive. I like drunk Rip Kirby a lot! Pretty sure Raymond never drew that. The jokes are pretty lame (or worse) though, with a few exceptions... Hope I'm not badmouthing Kurtzman here, I'm guessing this is Feldstein? I don't know enough MAD magazine stuff, I only have some of the early issues, when it was still a comic book. Love those! I think that especially Wood was at his peak then. And those Kurtzman covers will always be some of my favorites of all time.
Anyway, as always, thanks for posting!
