Weather-Beaten Copy

I just HAD to show you what a typical page of the last post looked like before it was digitally cleaned. We could have gone further and made it almost pristine, but while we wanted to make the art viewable, we are still honoring the weather-beating this copy went through to get to our 'modern age'.

  1. I want to thank Thom and Yoc here for the wonderful clean-up work they did; seeing their version is like actually getting a good copy of the issue. I just wish the series wasn't so rare that it's worth cleaning up such an obviously flawed copy since we're not likely to see another one soon.

And even incomplete, I really think this issue was worth the effort. The more I see the more impressed I am with Kelly's work on this title. I think it is really his great effort to create an adventure series. Pogo is always funny and Our Gang was a mix of adventure of humor. Peter Wheat, while frequently amusing, is never a comedy series.

I think my favorite sequence in this issue is the fight/ escape on pages 3 and 4. I love the expressions on the baby mouse; in particular how Kelly shows him waking up in the second panel on page 4. Kelly was incredible, as everybody reading this blog knows. Peter Wheat shows us a side of his storytelling we rarely get to see.
