I've had a request to find out if any of you out there have been to the Pogofest in Waycross, Georgia. Can you let me know if you have? Or if you know of anyone that has.
I personally have not, even though I live in Georgia. It's not been active as far as I know for some time.
I do know someone that has been there, though, and that's Mr. Bill Holbrook of longest running webcomic, Kevin & Kell. I believe he received an award one year there, like back in 1998?
I talked with him about a year or so ago about it, and he was keen to go to one should it ever occur again. You might drop him a line at his website and ask of his recollections.
I attended a couple of Pogofests back in the 90s. They had tours of the Okefenokee swamp, a parade with a costumed Pogo (ala Mickey at Disney World), a facsimile Kelly workroom with original art, and some exclusive Pogo merchandise such as T-shirts. Selby Kelly attended most of them, as did Steve Thompson of the Pogo Fan Club. There was usually a current cartoonist guest of honor. It was a small but enjoyable celebration.

My name is Thom Buchanan.
I'm an artist and photographer.
People are my favorite subjects to portray in art and photos. My wife (and studio partner) has called that my 'people skills', as I've been passionately creating portrait studies for many years.
I refer to myself as a pictorialist, a combination of image-making and journalist. Images are my life.
